Curtis Boosts its Tax Capability with Appointment of Vimal Tilakapala as a partner

The international law firm, Curtis is pleased to announce the appointment of Vimal Tilakapala as a partner to its London office, strengthening the firm’s senior tax expertise. Mr. Tilakapala, a highly experienced tax lawyer, joins Curtis from his previous role as partner and head of the UK tax practice at Allen & Overy Shearman in London. He is also a CEDR accredited mediator, a Deputy Judge of the Upper Tribunal (Tax & Chancery Chamber), and sits as a Judge in the First Tier Tax Tribunal. His appointment enhances Curtis’ capability to advise clients on complex UK and cross-border tax matters, including structured finance, regulatory capital, securitisation, taxation of financial instruments, and international tax disputes.

Mr. Tilakapala advises on a broad range of corporate and international tax issues with particular specialisation in UK and cross-border finance transactions. His expertise encompasses structured financing, regulatory capital, securitisation, taxation of financial instruments, and international tax disputes, providing valuable insight to Curtis’ international client base.

Experience

Vimal Tilakapala has extensive experience in tax law. Prior to joining Curtis, he was a partner and head of the UK tax practice at Allen & Overy Shearman in London. He serves as a Deputy Judge of the Upper Tribunal (Tax & Chancery Chamber) and sits as a Judge in the First Tier Tax Tribunal. He is also a CEDR accredited mediator. His practice focuses on corporate and international tax matters, structured finance, regulatory capital, securitisation, taxation of financial instruments, and international tax disputes, providing strategic advice to multinational corporations and financial institutions.

Education

Vimal Tilakapala completed his legal education in the UK, specialising in tax law, and has developed additional qualifications and experience through his roles in mediation and judicial appointments.
