Debevoise & Plimpton Announces Promotion Of Eleven New Partners Across Key Practice Areas

Debevoise & Plimpton LLP has announced that Erik Andrén, Natascha Born, Carter Burwell, Benjamin Collins-Wood, Nick Kaluk, John Love, Robert Maddox, Michael McGuigan, Ali Nierenberg, Jillian Wright, and Gregg Young will become partners of the firm, effective July 1, 2025.

Erik Andrén is based in the New York office and a member of the firm’s Mergers & Acquisitions Group. His practice focuses on advising private equity firms and corporate clients in connection with mergers and acquisitions and other corporate transactions across a broad range of industries. He received his J.D. from New York University School of Law in 2016 and his B.Sc. from Stockholm School of Economics in 2013.

Natascha Born is based in the New York office and is a member of the firm’s Commercial Litigation Group. Her practice focuses on complex, high-stakes litigation and arbitration, including cross-border disputes, class actions, litigation involving mergers and acquisitions, and shareholder derivative litigation across a range of industries. She clerked for the Hon. Steven M. Colloton on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit and for the Hon. Douglas H. Ginsburg on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. She received her J.D. magna cum laude from Harvard Law School in 2014 and her B.A. with honors and distinction from Stanford University in 2010.

Carter Burwell is based in the Washington, D.C. office and a member of the firm’s White Collar & Regulatory Defense Group. His practice focuses on representing corporations and individuals in white collar criminal defense, congressional and other government investigations, and national security matters. Prior to joining Debevoise, he served as Counselor to the Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Finance Intelligence and held senior roles at the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee and as a federal prosecutor. He received his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 2002, his M. Phil. from the University of Cambridge in 1998, and his B.A. from Columbia College in 1996.

Benjamin Collins-Wood is based in the New York office and a member of the firm’s Mergers & Acquisitions, Private Equity, and Private Funds Transactions Groups. He advises public and private companies, particularly private equity clients, on mergers and acquisitions, cross-border transactions, corporate carve-outs, restructurings, and fund secondaries. He received his J.D. and LL.M. cum laude from Duke University School of Law in 2013 and his B.A. summa cum laude from the University of Washington in 2009.

Nick Kaluk is based in the New York office and a member of the firm’s Restructuring and Special Situations Groups. He advises debtors, investors, and other stakeholders in complex Chapter 11 cases, out-of-court restructurings, insurance insolvencies, and structured financings. He clerked for the Hon. Allan L. Gropper on the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York. He received his J.D. magna cum laude from Brooklyn Law School in 2011 and his B.A. from Columbia University in 2005.

John Love is based in the New York office and a member of the firm’s Mergers & Acquisitions Group. His practice focuses on advising public and private clients, including private equity firms and their portfolio companies, on acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, and other corporate transactions across a broad range of industries. He received his J.D. from Columbia Law School in 2013, where he was a James Kent Scholar and a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar, and his B.S. magna cum laude from Vanderbilt University in 2008.

Robert Maddox is based in the London office and a member of the firm’s Data Strategy & Security Group. His practice focuses on advising clients on high-stakes multi-jurisdictional cybersecurity, privacy, and artificial intelligence matters, including incident response and regulatory defense. He received his L.P.C. with Distinction from the College of Law in 2011, his LL.M. from the National University of Singapore in 2010, and his B.A. from the University of Cambridge in 2009.

Michael McGuigan is based in the New York office and a member of the firm’s Finance Group. He represents fund sponsors in a wide range of fund finance transactions and advises on financing of major U.S. infrastructure projects, including redevelopment of JFK International Airport, LaGuardia Airport, and the World Trade Center in New York City. He received his J.D. summa cum laude from New York Law School in 2004 and his B.A. from Fordham University in 1999.

Ali Nierenberg is based in the New York office and a member of the firm’s Investment Management Group. Her practice focuses on advising sponsors of private investment funds, co-investment vehicles, and separately managed accounts, covering various sectors and strategies including buyout, infrastructure, and real estate. She received her J.D. from New York University School of Law in 2017 and her B.A. magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania in 2014.

Jillian Wright is based in the New York office and a member of the firm’s Mergers & Acquisitions Group. She advises corporate clients and private equity firms in connection with mergers and acquisitions and other significant corporate transactions. She received her J.D. from the University of Windsor in 2015, graduating with the highest academic standing in the J.D. program, and her B.A. with distinction from Queen’s University in 2012.

Gregg Young is based in the London office and a member of the firm’s Finance Group. He advises corporations, private equity sponsors, funds, and financial institutions on domestic and cross-border transactions, including acquisition financings, restructurings, fund finance, asset finance, and capital markets matters. He received his LL.M. from Columbia Law School in 2007 and his LL.B. (Honors) from King’s College London in 2004, and is admitted to practice in England and Wales as well as in New York.
