DIFC Courts Appoints Four New Female Judges to Small Claims Tribunal
The Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) Courts has appointed Sarah Bassuni, Nour Al Marabta, Leena Ouali, and Alia Al Shamsi as judges of the Small Claims Tribunal (SCT).
The judges officially swore the professional oath this morning before H.E. Justice Ali Al Madhani, Deputy Chief Justice of the DIFC Courts, following their formal appointment.
Bassuni and Al Marabta previously served as judicial assistants at the DIFC Courts, while Ouali worked as a case progression officer, bringing valuable experience to their new judicial roles.
Commenting on the appointments, the DIFC Courts Said,
“We wish them every success as they begin this new chapter, contributing to the DIFC Courts’ ongoing mission of delivering innovative and world-class judicial services.”
Established in 2007, the SCT generally hears claims up to AED 500,000 but can adjudicate employment-related claims exceeding this amount or non-employment claims up to AED 1 million if all parties consent in writing.
The appointments continue the DIFC Courts’ focus on strengthening judicial expertise and promoting diversity and inclusion within its tribunals.
The DIFC Courts are an independent, English-language common law judiciary based in the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), with exclusive jurisdiction over civil and commercial disputes within the DIFC and the ability to hear other cases by mutual agreement (opt-in jurisdiction).
