Based in the firm’s Washington, DC office, Walsh will support the regulatory and government affairs practice.
DLA Piper has welcomed Mike Walsh as partner in the National Security and Global Trade Practice where he will advise clients on steering the dynamic international trade and tariff environment. Based in the firm’s Washington, DC office, Walsh will support the regulatory and government affairs practice.
Walsh advises clients on US export controls, US trade policy and inbound US investment strategy. Earlier, he served concomitantly as Chief of Staff and Acting General Counsel at the US Department of Commerce during the first Trump administration where he worked to develop US trade and export control policy and attract foreign direct investment to the US. Walsh’s knowledge of the Trump administration’s priorities and his commercial experience will help him advise clients on investments in US manufacturing, energy, advanced technology, artificial intelligence, biotechnology and life sciences sectors as also new US government initiatives in technology, defence, semiconductor manufacturing, shipbuilding and commercial space exploration.
Walsh represents sovereign wealth funds, private equity firms, venture capital funds and US and multinational companies on Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) matters, interactions with the US Department of Commerce, export controls, other Cabinet agencies, and Congress. Walsh represents US clients looking to export advanced technology related to artificial intelligence and clients outside the US looking to acquire advanced US AI technology to aid their own domestic growth.
