HKIAC's Former Top Brass Rejoin Private Sector in Hong Kong

Mariel Dimsey and Eric Ng, both former HKIAC leaders, are returning to private practice. Dimsey will be heading the Hong Kong office at CMS Germany, while Ng will be a barrister at Prince's Chambers. Both Dimsey and Ng are qualified arbitrators with experience in international commercial and investment arbitration.

Dimsey is an experienced international arbitration lawyer who has acted as an adviser and advocate in many international arbitrations. She has expertise in covering disputes involving Chinese parties.

Before joining CMS, Dimsey practised at the associate level at Hogan Lovells and Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton.

Eric Ng, previously the deputy secretary-general of the HKIAC, is now a barrister at Prince's Chambers. Ng is also an experienced international arbitration lawyer.

Dimsey comes in place of Nicolas Wiegand, the former head of the Hong Kong office, who has now been named as the co-head of the CMS international arbitration group. Dimsey’s return was welcomed by Wiegand, who said she “will play a key role in leading our Hong Kong office and contributing to the growth of our international arbitration practice.”

In 2022, Dimsey, who had been a partner at CMS Hong Kong and co-led the firm's international arbitration division, assumed the role of secretary-general of the HKIAC, taking over from Sarah Grimmer.

In the same year, Ng, a barrister qualified in Hong Kong, ascended to the position of deputy secretary-general at the HKIAC, succeeding Joe Liu. Before joining the HKIAC in 2019, Ng had amassed over five years of experience as a barrister at Gilt Chambers in Hong Kong.

With a specialisation in civil litigation and arbitration, Ng's expertise centres on international commercial and investor-state arbitration. He has served in various capacities, acting as both counsel and tribunal secretary in numerous international commercial and investor-state arbitration cases.
