The firm has set eyes on expanding its German private equity team

One of the top 25 US law firms McDermott Will & Emery has announced that Holger Ebersberger and Hanno Witt have joined the firm as partners in Munich.

While Ebersberger, earlier a partner at Noerr for five years, joins as co-head of McDermott's German private equity practice, Witt was a counsel at Latham & Watkins. The duo, who have previously served together at Linklaters, were roped in to boost the firm's German private equity practice.

He will co-head the German private equity group alongside Frankfurt-based Michael Cziesla, the former SJ Berwin partner who joined the firm in 2017.

Ebersberger has over 15 years of experience advising private equity funds and strategic investors on M&A transactions, including public takeovers, auctions, carve-outs and joint ventures. His specialty lies in digital business, tech, media and telecoms, life sciences and healthcare.

Beginning his career as a foreign associate at Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom in New York, Ebersberger has also worked with Ashurst and Gleiss Lutz.

Meanwhile, Witt has about 12 years of experience advising buy-side and sell-side clients on M&A-related activities, including cross-border deals. He served at Latham since 2016 and in 2021 entered into a partnership.

Jens Ortmanns, the managing partner of McDermott in Germany, said, "With the addition of Ebersberger and Witt, we continue the strategic expansion of our transaction practice in Germany. They are an excellent fit for us, both professionally and personally."

McDermott has eight offices in Europe, with four located in Cologne, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt and Munich in Germany.
