Hunton Andrews Kurth Expands Global Reach with New South Korea Partners

Hunton Andrews Kurth, a preeminent international law firm formed by the merger of Hunton & Williams LLP and Andrews Kurth Kenyon LLP in 2018, is bolstering its global capabilities with the addition of partners Nelson Ahn and Edward Kim.

According to John Schneider, co-head of the business finance practice group at Hunton Andrews, the surge in Inbound investment from South Korean companies — particularly in emerging and mature technologies — has been remarkable, especially in the southeastern United States. Ahn and Kim stand out for their profound understanding of the South Korean market and their ability to address the needs of companies operating locally in the US.

Here’s a closer look at the new partners:

Nelson Ahn: With over 30 years of experience spanning both the private and public sectors in South Korea and the US, Ahn led Lee & Ko’s inbound transactions practice group in Seoul. He currently serves as the vice chair of the M&A Committee within the international practice group of the American Bar Association.

Edward Kim: Boasting more than three decades of legal expertise, Kim has played pivotal roles in various high-profile transactions, including M&A, private equity, corporate spin-offs/restructurings and joint ventures. His international experience extends to advising on US and international securities offerings, including sovereign bond issuances. Previously, he served as a corporate partner at Lee & Ko.

Sam Danon, managing partner at Hunton Andrews, asserted that Ahn and Kim have been trusted advisers to several leading global corporations with interests in the US and beyond. Their ability to navigate complex transactions and address local legal and operational challenges makes them valuable additions to the firm.
