K&L Gates Strengthens Brisbane Real Estate Team With Addition of Partner Justin O'Callaghan

Global law firm K&L Gates expands its Australian footprint by appointing Justin O'Callaghan as a partner in its Brisbane Real Estate practice. O'Callaghan, formerly a principal at McInnes Wilson Lawyers with expertise in construction and infrastructure, brings valuable skills and experience to the team.

O'Callaghan boasts a diverse portfolio, advising top public and private clients on intricate engineering, procurement, and construction projects across energy, renewables, infrastructure, natural resources, and large-scale developments. He navigates the complexities for both international and domestic players, representing principals, financiers, head contractors, and key project participants.

Leveraging his diverse experience and keen cross-sector insights, O'Callaghan empowers clients across a vast spectrum of transactions. He excels at guiding them through market trends and opportunities, enabling them to make informed strategic decisions and navigate the entire project lifecycle – from delivery and operation to ongoing maintenance.

“We are delighted to welcome Justin to the firm. He brings a wealth of experience and capability in the construction sector and adds extra depth to our Real Estate and Energy, Infrastructure and Resources practices. These are areas where we see potential for significant growth, in particular in Brisbane, and strong interest from our local and international clients,” K&L Gates' Regional Managing Partner, Australia, Jason Opperman said.

Real Estate practice area leader Sandra Steele stated: “We are excited to have Justin join our team. As Brisbane prepares to host the Olympics in 2032, Justin is well placed to strengthen our construction and infrastructure capabilities, perfectly positioning the firm to further assist our clients with their projects leading up to the event and beyond.”

O'Callaghan's arrival marks the third partner to join K&L Gates' Real Estate and Energy, Infrastructure and Resources (REIR) practices in Australia within the past year, following the appointments of Jennifer McCosker and James Durnall in Sydney in 2023.
