Matthew Hodgson Joins Linklaters as Partner and Head of Public International Law


Linklaters has announced the appointment of Matthew Hodgson as an arbitration partner and Head of Public International Law in its London office, reinforcing the firm’s international arbitration practice. Matthew’s appointment follows a series of high-profile additions to Linklaters’ Litigation, Arbitration and Investigations group, including recent hires of litigation partners Adeel Mangi, Muhammad Faridi, Diana Conner, and George LoBiondo in New York; Global Co-Head of International Arbitration Joseph R. Profaizer; and Senior Counsel Adam Weiss in Washington, D.C.

Matthew is recognized as a leading international arbitration practitioner, specializing in complex disputes arising from cross-border investments. He has represented clients in high-stakes commercial arbitrations under all major arbitral rules and has acted for investors and States in more than 20 investment treaty disputes under the ICSID and UNCITRAL Rules. In addition, he has served as arbitrator in disputes under HKIAC, ICC, LCIA, and SIAC rules.

Matthew’s experience spans a range of sectors, including energy and infrastructure, life sciences, oil and gas, mining, real estate, technology, and telecommunications. He has also advised private equity and funds clients in disputes arising from M&A transactions and joint venture/shareholder disagreements. Matthew joins Linklaters from A&O Shearman, where he was a partner in the international arbitration group.
