O’Melveny Appoints John Curran as Partner in Singapore Office

The global law firm O’Melveny has announced the appointment of John Curran as Partner in its Corporate Finance Practice, joining the firm’s Singapore office to further enhance its cross-border financing capabilities and regional presence across Asia.

Curran brings significant experience in advising private equity sponsors, corporates, strategic investors, arrangers, and credit funds on complex cross-border financing transactions, with a particular focus on acquisition and leveraged finance across Southeast Asia and India. He also advises clients on special situation investments involving stressed or distressed companies.

Recognised as a “Rising Star” for Banking & Finance by IFLR1000, Curran joins O’Melveny from Kirkland & Ellis, where he was a Partner in the firm’s Debt Finance Practice in Hong Kong. He previously worked at Allen & Overy (now A&O Shearman) in both London and Singapore. His addition marks another milestone in O’Melveny’s Singapore growth—he is the third lateral corporate partner to join within a year, following the appointments of Stephanie Keen and Sylvia Taslim in 2024.

Bradley J. Butwin, Chair of O’Melveny, said,

“John is a highly regarded lawyer with a dynamic skillset and impeccable credentials in the finance and private credit arenas. As we continue to expand our platform in Singapore—an increasingly vital international business hub—his addition will be an immediate asset to our clients across Asia and beyond.”

Expressing enthusiasm about his new role, Curran said,

“I’m excited to join O’Melveny’s talented team in Singapore and to contribute to the expansion of its internationally integrated finance practice. The firm’s collaborative culture, global reach, and client-focused approach make it the perfect platform for my practice.”

Curran’s appointment reinforces O’Melveny’s rapidly growing Corporate Finance Practice, which has added 14 partners in the past five years, spanning key sectors such as aviation, energy, infrastructure, music and entertainment, real estate, leveraged and acquisition finance, and private credit. He also represents the 42nd lateral partner to join O’Melveny since 2023, underscoring the firm’s ongoing strategic expansion across major financial centers worldwide.

Curran holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from Durham University and a Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice (LPC) from BPP University, and is qualified as a solicitor in England and Wales.
