Orrick acquires former co-head of Hughes Hubbard's arbitration group in New York

Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe has strengthened its New York-based international arbitration team with the addition of a senior partner from Hughes Hubbard. After a tenure of over two decades at Hughes Hubbard, Hagit Elul has joined Orrick.

With a focus on international arbitration and cross-border litigation for clients in the life sciences, energy, infrastructure, and tech industries, Elul, formerly a co-chair of the arbitration group at Hughes Hubbard, brings expertise in handling matters in various forums globally.

"Hagit is a highly regarded first-chair counsel in the international arbitration bar and adds to our US-based bench at a time when more parties in life sciences, energy, infrastructure and tech are turning to arbitration as the preferred cross-border dispute resolution mechanism," Charles Adams, the Geneva-based head of Orrick's international arbitration practice, said.

Specialising in high-stakes arbitration and litigation, Elul provides representation for clients primarily located in Asia, Europe, and Latin America in a variety of industries, including pharmaceuticals, intellectual property, energy, construction, and commercial contracts.

At Hughes Hubbard, she achieved favourable outcomes in critical disputes for clients such as Global Gaming, a casino operator based in Las Vegas, and Tokyo Electric Power, Japan's largest nuclear power company.

"Orrick, with its strength in global energy and infrastructure and the life sciences talent the firm has recently attracted, presents a very exciting platform on which to grow my practice. I am looking forward to collaborating closely with this global team," Elul said.

Orrick has said that Elul is the 11th partner to join its litigation platform since the start of last year, nine of whom are focused on life sciences.
