Dr. Vanina Sucharitkul, FCIArb Sucharitkul, an accomplished International Arbitration expert, has been appointed as a partner to Singapore-headquartered law firm Rajah & Tann's Regional International Arbitration practice in Bangkok.

Bringing a wealth of experience in international arbitration, Dr. Vanina has served as the ICC Court Member for Thailand for nine years. In addition to this, she currently holds the position of Chair of the Thailand Branch of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) and has previously served as a director of ArbitralWomen.

Her area of expertise lies in international arbitration, where she provides clients with advice on a wide range of commercial litigation and cross-border disputes involving commercial contracts, investigations, anti-corruption, joint ventures, hospitality, construction and infrastructure projects, environmental contamination, and investment treaty arbitration.

She has served as counsel and advocate in arbitrations across various jurisdictions, under the auspices of institutions such as the ICC, SIAC, HKIAC, AAA, and TAI.

Vanina Sucharitkul has served as a member of the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) from 2012 to 2021. She has also served as the director of ArbitralWomen for two terms and is the founder and co-president of the Young Thailand Arbitration Centre. Currently, she serves as the chair of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) Thailand Branch and is an arbitrator in addition to her lecturing activities.

Vanina Sucharitkul gained her international experience while working with the Bangkok, Paris, and Hong Kong dispute resolution teams of Herbert Smith Freehills.

Before joining Herbert Smith Freehills, she started her career in San Francisco at Morrison & Foerster, where she represented multinational corporations in complex commercial matters involving internal and external investigations, securities litigation, consumer class actions, prosecution of trademark registrations in the US and foreign jurisdictions, and domain name disputes before the WIPO.

Her experience in arbitration involved issues related to investment disputes and political risk insurance claims.

“I am thrilled to join a regional team of stellar international arbitration specialists with an in-depth reach and presence throughout Asia. I look forward to contributing to the growth and success of the international arbitration market. I am also excited to be part of a firm that has a strong culture of collegiality to serve the best interest of clients with a reputation for excellence,” Vanina said.

Vanina holds a Juris Doctor degree with a concentration in International Law from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, and an LL.M. in International Law from Golden Gate University. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of California, Berkeley.

In addition to her legal degrees, she also holds a Ph.D. (Doctorat en Droit) with the highest distinctions, summa cum laude, from the Université de Paris Panthéon-Assas in 2022, focusing on investment arbitration and investor-State dispute settlement reform.
