Global law firm White & Case has boosted its global Mergers And Acquisitions practice and global private equity industry group by appointing Phillip Sacks as a partner in Dubai.

Sacks has extensive experience in advising financial institutions, fund managers, and sovereign wealth funds on structuring, establishing, and closing onshore and offshore conventional and Shari’ah-compliant investment funds. His expertise covers various fund types, including private equity, credit, hedge, infrastructure, real estate, and venture capital.

He also counsels on structuring and forming parallel and co-investment vehicles, along with the formation of regulated asset management entities.

On the development, John Reiss, the head of the firm’s global M&A practice remarked, “The continued growth of our global private equity group has significantly increased the demand for funds support. It is critical that we build our global funds capabilities to meet this demand. Sacks’ expertise and abilities make him the perfect fit to grow our funds team in the Middle East and support our financial sponsor clients while working closely with our team globally.”

Thierry Bosly, the regional section head of EMEA M&A/private equity at the firm commented, “Sacks is a recognized market leader with experience in advising a wide range of financial sponsors on the full lifecycle of their funds. He has been advising fund clients in the Middle East for almost 20 years and will be integral to expanding our offering to major clients in the region. His arrival supports the continued expansion of our funds’ capabilities following the strategic growth of our global M&A practice and private equity industry group in recent years.”

Oliver Brettle, the partner, and vice chair at White & Case added, “The addition of Sacks follows the arrival of leading funds partner Emily Brown from Ropes & Gray in London earlier this month. Funds work is central to clients’ needs in the Middle East; a region White & Case has been active in for nearly seven decades. We expect that Sacks will be working particularly closely with Emily and our Luxembourg office, with the fund’s team there led by partner Arnaud Cagi-Nicolau.”

Previously serving at Dechert as a partner, Sacks headed the investment funds practice in the Middle East.
