Chooi & Company Appoints Yeong Hui Yap as Managing Partner

The Malaysian law firm Chooi & Company has appointed Yeong Hui Yap as Managing Partner, effective 6 February 2026, marking a new leadership chapter for the firm.

Yap brings around two decades of legal experience across Malaysia and Singapore. He was admitted as an advocate and solicitor of the High Court in Malaya in 2006 and the Supreme Court of Singapore in 2012. His practice focuses primarily on employment and industrial relations, as well as maritime and international trade. His expertise in these areas has been recognised by legal directories including Chambers Asia-Pacific, Benchmark Litigation, and Asialaw. Prior to becoming Managing Partner, he also served for several years on the firm’s management committee.

Earlier in his career, Yap was a Partner at Chooi & Company and its affiliated firm Chooi & Company + Cheang & Ariff. He previously worked at Skrine, Baker McKenzie, and Rajah & Tann, gaining cross-border experience in Malaysia and Singapore.

Commenting on his appointment, Yap said he looks forward to preserving the firm’s long-standing values while working closely with partners, colleagues, and staff to guide the firm into its next phase of growth and innovation.

Education

Yap holds an LL.B. from University of Canterbury and completed his pre-university studies at Taylor's College in Malaysia.
