She will lead a team of 55 lawyers, including 13 partners

The Magic Circle firm, Slaughter and May has named long-serving corporate lawyer Benita Yu as the next senior partner of its Hong Kong office.

Yu has taken over following the retirement of senior partner Peter Brien from the firm after nine years. He was earlier an associate in London.

Steve Cooke, the senior partner at Slaughter and May said, "Yu is an outstanding practitioner and ideally equipped to continue the success of the firm in Hong Kong. I look forward to working with her."

Yu remarked, "I am delighted to take on the role of a senior partner in Hong Kong. Having worked closely with Brien, I am looking forward to continuing to drive the success of the firm in Asia."

A veteran at Slaughter and May, Yu joined the firm in 1994. She has been a partner since 1996. Her practice covers M&A and corporate finance transactions as well as high-profile securities matters.

Yu has advised several major corporate clients, PRC state-owned enterprises, international issuers, and leading investment banks over the course of her career at Slaughter and May. Her clients include Alibaba, China National Building Materials, and Prada.
