Debevoise & Plimpton has hired former Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) counsel Samuel Fung to strengthen its litigation practice. Fung served at SFC for over three years prior to joining the firm. He is a dual-qualified practitioner with private practice, public-service regulatory and white-collar experience.

Owing to his vast experience at SFC, Fung will guide clients through various civil, criminal and disciplinary proceedings and investigations being conducted by the commission. Additionally, in his new role he will also be involved in advising the clients on the full spectrum of litigation matters, including white-collar and investigations work. In particular, he will be well positioned to help guide the firm's clients through the various civil, criminal and disciplinary proceedings and investigations being conducted by the SFC.

Fluent in Cantonese, Mandarin and English, Fung will also add to Debevoise's existing language capabilities in its Hong Kong office.

"I'm excited to be welcoming Samuel to the Debevoise team," said Mark Johnson, Managing Partner for Debevoise in Hong Kong. "We already have one of the premier litigation and regulatory practices in Hong Kong. Bringing in someone with Samuel's background and skillset at a time when clients in the region are likely to face a more proactive regulator will only cement that. Samuel is a talented lawyer, and he'll be an important part of our senior team in Hong Kong for years to come."

Fung is admitted to practice as a solicitor in Hong Kong and England & Wales. He has earlier worked with renowned law firms such as Mayer Brown and Allen & Overy.
