The number of partners at the firm has now risen to eight

London-headquartered law firm Watson Farley & Williams (WFW) has hired Jonathan Silver as a partner in its Hong Kong office. An expert in assets and structured finance, Silver worked with the Maples Group.

A former head of the North Asia shipping practice at Norton Rose Fulbright, Silver has more than 18 years of experience advising on general banking and finance matters, working capital loans, syndicated and bilateral lending, secured lending, structured trade and commodity finance, debt capital markets and alternative finance.

He also advises on the debt financing of ships, sale-and-leaseback lease finance, sale and purchase, and other commercial shipping contracts.

Silver joined Maples in 2019 after nearly 15 years at Norton Rose across two spells on either side of a stint as partner at independent Hong Kong law firm Howse Williams (then known as Howse Williams Bowers) between 2013 and 2014.

With Silver's joining, WFW now has eight partners in Hong Kong. The office's last lateral partner hire was in January 2021 from Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner when Jackson Chow joined the firm.
