Latham & Watkins has appointed Linklaters' partner in Germany to develop its real estate transactions competences.

Working for five years in Linklaters as partner in the Magic Circle firm's real estate group, Carsten Loll joins Latham & Watkins. Prior to this he led DLA Piper's real estate practice in Germany. Loll will plan his time and work in between Frankfurt and Munich at Latham.

According to Burc Hesse, Latham's office managing partner in Germany, advising on important dealings in Europe, Loll's track record "merges well with our objective of becoming the most prominent private equity real estate practice in the region".

Hesse further stated, "He will add value to the team and share his appreciated expertise to our miscellaneous corporate and finance practices."

Asset and share deals and portfolio transactions across all major asset classes include Loll's practice, comprising of offices, retail and logistics. German private equity firms, institutional investors and asset managers are his range of clientele.

In September, Loll was one of the part of the Linklaters team counselled asset management giant MEAG on its acquisition of twelve German retail parks from Patrizia. It's a contract that also included groups from Gleiss Lutz and Clifford Chance.

"In continental Europe, Germany is the most significant market for global investors and a major commercial centre. Carsten's arrival will help combine our position as the market's premier transactional firm as we foresee thrilling opportunities to further develop our European real estate practice," asserts Michael Haas, global co-chair of the firm's real estate practice.

With more than 150 lawyers across offices in Frankfurt, Munich, Hamburg and Düsseldorf, Latham has a momentous existence in the German market. The firm appointed M&A partners Ingo Strauss and Heiko Gotsche from Baker McKenzie previous summer to reinforce its corporate department in Düsseldorf.

Germany has been the centre of substantial investment from international firms opting to build their private equity capabilities. In July 2022, Goodwin Procter appointed Winfried Carli private equity partner from Shearman & Sterling. He is joining the firm's newly inaugurated Munich office.
