The regulatory and energy practices of the Madrid office will be led by Fernando Calancha Marzana

As the newest member of Hogan Lovells, the head of PwC's Spanish regulatory practice has moved to Madrid to lead the agency's regulatory and energy practices.

Fernando Calancha Marzana moves to the UK firm after spending more than a decade at PwC, where he was responsible for the accounting giant's Spanish regulatory and energy and natural resource practices.

Marzana served as a state lawyer and litigated a range of administrative cases; most recently, she served as head of cabinet of the energy department of the Spanish government and as state lawyer for its energy section.

While working as a state lawyer before joining PwC, Marzana held various energy-related positions including jobs at the Spanish Institute of Foreign Trade and the Institute for Diversification and Saving Energy.

As a member of Hogan Lovells' Spanish regulatory practice, Marzana will advise clients across several highly regulated sectors, including corporations, funds and advisory firms.

Since the office opened for business in 2004 Marzana is the office's twenty-third partner. In January 2022, 27-strong promotion round, Jon Aurrekoetxea was promoted to a partner, as part of a group of European appointments made by the firm.

"Fernando is a great addition to our Madrid team and exactly represents the high standards we aim to maintain in our Spanish regulatory practice," said Jose Luis Vázquez, the managing partner of Hogan Lovells in Madrid. "This appointment further strengthens our regulatory practice in Madrid and we are delighted with it."

Marzana expressed excitement about joining Hogan Lovells and leading the Regulatory practice. He added that he was fortunate to be a part of such a distinguished group of lawyers. "My long-term impression of the firm's collaborative culture and global platform has been very positive. I know this will bring great value to my clients," he mentioned.

Josefina Garcia Pedroviejo, who leads Ashurst's investment funds practice in Madrid, was hired last week by Pérez-Llorca to head up the firm's financial services group.

Kennedys, an insurance specialist in the UK, doubled its Madrid office space earlier this month by relocating its 15-strong team to an office on the fifth floor of the Castellana 40 Bis building as part of its 'WorkWise' global workplace transformation programme.
