Rishab Gupta has joined as a tenant at Twenty Essex Chambers, one of the leading commercial sets in London and Singapore.

While Gupta is the sixth new practitioner to associate with the chambers recently, he is among the few Indian advocates to join as a tenant. Others are senior advocates Harish Salve (Blackstone Chambers) and Nakul Dewan (Twenty Essex Chambers).

Gupta was the equity partner and senior member of the international arbitration practice at Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas (SAM). He intends continuing to work closely with the law firm. His plans include setting up a chamber in Mumbai for his India practice. Independent of his work at Twenty Essex, it will focus on arbitration and commercial litigation.

Commenting on his joining, Philip Edey and Charles Kimmins, the co-heads of Twenty Essex and King's Counsel, said, "We give a very warm welcome to Gupta. His extensive experience in international arbitration, commercial litigation and PIL make him an excellent fit for Twenty Essex, where we have no doubt, he will continue to thrive."

Meanwhile, Pallavi Shroff, the managing partner, and head of dispute resolution at SAM commented, "Gupta is an excellent lawyer and has been an integral member of the firm's pan-India arbitration practice over the years. He will continue to be a trusted advisor to the firm and work closely with our team on existing and new matters. We wish him all the very best for his future endeavors and look forward to our continued association in his new role."

Akshay Chudasama, the managing partner of SAM reflected, "Gupta has been an important part of our market-leading arbitration practice. We will continue to work closely with him on our existing and future matters and wish him all the best with this new chapter in his professional life."

Gupta is a 2007 graduate of the London School of Economics and Political Science and in 2008 obtained a Juris Doctorate from Columbia Law School. In 2016, he completed his D. Phil in Law from the University of Oxford as a Rhodes scholar.

Qualified to practice in India, the UK and the US, he has previously worked with international law firms Debevoise & Plimpton and Allen & Overy. Later, he returned to India to join SAM. In 2021, he was called to the Bar of England & Wales by Middle Temple.
