Shearman & Sterling's Latin America and Capital Markets Group Strengthened by joining of Alejandro Gordano as Partner

On Monday, Shearman & Sterling revealed that Alejandro Gordano is returning to the firm as a Capital Markets Partner within its renowned Latin America team, located in New York.

Alejandro's addition further enhances Shearman & Sterling's Latin America group, a team recognised for its outstanding advisory services to prominent global corporations, financial institutions, emerging growth companies, venture capital investors, governments, and state-owned enterprises across the region. This group covers various industries that benefit from the firm's extensive range of practice areas, including capital markets, project finance, structured finance, M&A, venture capital, securities regulation, restructuring, litigation, and arbitration.

“Alejandro is an accomplished capital markets lawyer with a keen understanding of the business and legal challenges and opportunities unique to Latin America,” said Adam Hakki, Shearman & Sterling’s Senior Partner.

“His relationships with financial institutions, corporations and sovereign clients in the region will be an asset to both our Capital Markets and Project Development and finance practices,” Hakki added.

With over two decades of legal expertise, Alejandro has led clients through intricate and ambitious debt and equity transactions across Latin America. His recent accomplishments encompass SEC-registered and exempt debt and equity offerings, credit facilities, restructurings, as well as diverse structured finance transactions. His proficiency also extends to a comprehensive understanding of environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) elements linked to capital market activities in the Latin American context.

“Alejandro is a versatile attorney with a pragmatic, problem-solving approach and a talent for building long-lasting client relationships and getting deals done,” said Antonia Stolper, a member of the firm’s Latin America group.

Alejandro marks the third lateral partner to integrate with the firm's Latin America team this year. In February, Shearman & Sterling welcomed global energy legal expert Mona Dajani and tax specialist Jorge Medina as partners in the Project Development & Finance practice, situated in New York and the Bay Area. Additionally, the firm recently elevated Robert O’Leary to a partnership role within the Project Development & Finance practice, headquartered in New York.

“We’re absolutely delighted that Alejandro has decided to return to Shearman & Sterling at such an exciting time for the firm,” said partner Manuel Orillac of the Latin America group.

Alejandro started his U.S. legal career at Shearman & Sterling before gaining significant experience with his stints at a major international bank and a global biotechnology company.

“I am very excited to return to Shearman & Sterling as a partner at such a transformational moment in the firm’s history,” said Alejandro.

“I feel energised by the great opportunities we see in Latin America and am committed to delivering unparalleled legal advice to our clients,” Alejandro added.
